The Rinko Medaka is a distinct Japanese Ricefish variety renowned for its scale-by-scale body glow.
The hallmark of this trait is that bright metallic iridescence coats the edge of each scale. This creates a three-dimensional, "mesh" or "net-like" pattern across the torso that catches the light whenever the fish turns.
The strong metallic guanine pigment often spills into the fin rays, causing the edges of the dorsal, anal, and caudal fins to glow brightly.
The net-like glow effect is especially striking when viewed from above in dark containers or ponds with overhead lighting. Because the scales reflect light individually, the pattern looks dynamic as the fish swims in groups.
Direct sunlight or focused overhead LEDs paired with a dark substrate bring out the crisp outlines of the Rinko scale shine.
